How long do car batteries last?

Cold weather is often implicated in car battery problems, but heat is the true enemy of your battery. Many times, if your car won’t start in the winter, it is because the summer heat weakened the battery to the point that it has trouble coping with a cold engine.

In Colorado, the combination of hot summers and cold winters can be particularly hard on your battery. Therefore, it is best to have your battery and your charging system professionally tested once annually.

Note: There are many influencing factors on the life of a car battery.

  • Quality of the battery itself.
  • Technology of the internal components of the battery.
  • Condition or health of your vehicle’s charging system.
  • Repeated discharging of the battery can shorten its life.
  • Unusual vibrations can have negative effects.
